Question: What types of RNA can be detected?
Answer: The Single Cell 3’ assay captures polyadenylated (polyA) transcripts, which includes most eukaryotic messenger RNA (mRNA), and some long noncoding RNAs and antisense transcripts.
Precursor pri-miRNAs also contain a poly-A tail, but they are localized to the nucleus and can only be captured when running isolated nuclei samples (as opposed to single cell suspensions).
Many bacterial and viral RNAs, however, are not polyadenylated and therefore will not be detected.
