Question: Why are we making direct download to a networked Chromium X Series instrument the default path for updates starting with firmware v2.0?
Answer: Customers benefit from networking Chromium X Series instruments with (1) the most seamless update experience and (2) improved supportability. We are making this the default path so there is a more uniform experience for Customers and Support—and bringing the process into alignment with CytAssist and Xenium.
By having an instrument connected, customers will be alerted of updates to better ensure they are on a firmware version that includes the latest assay compatibility and bug fixes.
Connected instruments give 10x Genomics visibility to system logs that allow us to observe, respond to, and fix issues in the field. Biological sample data and personal health information are not collected from logs.
Please see the Network Connectivity Technical Note for details on how to get connected.
