Question: How many freeze-thaw cycles are Xenium reagents stable for?
Answer: Most Xenium reagents have been tested for at least three freeze-thaw cycles.
Sample Prep Reagents
Xenium Sample Prep Reagents have been validated for up to 3 freeze-thaw cycles when prepared according to guidance provided in the User Guide. This includes the following:
- Xenium Sample Prep Reagents (PN-1000633, part of Xenium Slides & Sample Prep Reagents PN-1000460)
- Xenium Prime Sample Prep Reagents (PN-1000720)
Decoding Modules
Xenium Decoding Modules B and C are stored at -20°C and have been validated for up to 3 freeze-thaw cycles, by thawing overnight at 4°C* or for 2 hrs at 37°C. This includes the following:
- Xenium Decoding Module B (PN-2000799)
- Xenium Prime 5K Decoding Module B (PN-1000722)
- Xenium Cell Segmentation Detection Module (PN-2000993)
*We recommend to use the plate within 3 days of thawing.
It is important for the plate to stay in the original mylar packaging during any thawing. Additional details on reagent plate preparation can be found in the Xenium Analyzer User Guide (CG000584).

Cell Segmentation Reagents
Xenium Cell Segmentation Reagents (PN-1000661) are stable for up to 4 freeze-thaw cycles. Once reagents are reconstituted, they must be used on the same day.
Probe Panels
Xenium Probe Panels (both pre-designed and custom) have been validated for the following:
- 2 rxn and 4 rxn kits: 5 freeze-thaw cycles
- 12 rxn kits: 8 freeze-thaw cycles
- 16 rxn kits: 10 freeze-thaw cycles
Guidance on storage and preparation of Probe Panels can be found in this article: What are the shipping and storage temperatures of Xenium Probes?. For more details, please refer to the relevant Assay User Guide.
